After an hour of examination we drove back to the dealer and I told the customer to offer the dealer dollars less than his asking price. Of course the salesman went ballistic, claiming the truck was like brand new and in mint condition. That is until I pointed out that the bed had been replaced and the entire rear half of the truck had been repainted. Of course he called me a liar and we had him put the truck up on a rack and I showed him where the pretty fire engine red paint was missing on the underside of the bed which was still the original white finish. From that point on, the deal went completely different and the man bought the truck for dollars less and he left the place a happy camper in his new, used pickup truck. I had told him that I would charge him dollars to check out the vehicle and when we got back to my shop, he handed me I took my and handed him back the rest and he just stood there and stared at me. But you just saved me dollars, he replied. no I didn’t, I just stopped the dealer from stealing from you, I said. Needless to say he became a loyal customer for life and to this day, years later, he’s still driving that shiny red pickup truck.
